Time to Quit Dieting
The first week of the program is extremely important because if you haven’t already given up dieting for good the moment you read Chapter 1, this is the week to do it. This is the week when you quit dieting. You’re going to banish the whole notion from your head, forever. Once, the idea of dieting was ingrained in me, too, so I know that the idea of quitting sounds a little scary. Now, however, I never diet, I never obsess, and I never fear any food. I never will again. There is no tomorrow; there is only right now. If I’m hungry, I eat. If I’m not hungry, I don’t eat. And when I’m not eating, I live my life. This is what I want for you.
It sounds simple, but it can take some practice, and that’s where the Naturally Thin Program kicks in—to help you practice listening to your food voice, shutting out your food noise, and eating when and what you really want, not what or when a clock, a diet plan, or someone sitting next to you in a restaurant says you should eat.
Why do I include the Naturally Thin Program in this book, if I’m so opposed to diets? Isn’t the point to teach you how to do this yourself? Exactly. For some people, the ten rules alone aren’t enough structure, so for those of you who want more structure, here it is. I can talk all day about how I think, how naturally thin people think, and how you can change the way you think. But when you are faced with a restaurant menu, a bakery case full of cupcakes, or a hot cheesy pizza at midnight, you’re going to need something to hang on to. That’s what this program is all about. This is me, holding your hand and walking through the week with you, to show you how it works to live and eat this way.
But what the Naturally Thin Program is not about is me telling you to eat half a cup of this and three tablespoons of that. I’m not going to do that, because that goes against everything being naturally thin is about. Humans are strange creatures, and every one of us is different. This morning, I had a small vegan coconut cupcake and half a cantaloupe for breakfast. How could I possibly put that on a meal plan for you? Maybe you hate coconut, or cantaloupe. And it certainly wasn’t the breakfast of champions!
But I will tell you what I am eating, because I want you to hear my inner dialogue when I decide what to eat. If you do like the sound of it, you can get inspiration from my meals. You can also get an idea of portion control and the way I balance the foods I eat throughout the day. However, my meals aren’t meant to be a meal plan for you. They are meant to be only a tool to help guide you through your own meals.
